So Dearly QAL - Finished quilt

I have been sharing a part of the motif each month since last April and here is my finished deer ! I have been thrilled to be a part of the So Dearly QAL hosted by Gosia at Quilts My Way as a pattern tester and cheerleader for her project.

Je vous ai révélé une partie du motif chaque mois depuis avril dernier et voici mon cerf terminé ! J'ai été ravie de participer au So Dearly QAL organisé par Gosia de Quilts My Way en tant que testeur et supporter pour son projet.



I had first thought of binding it with the orange and white striped print but, no surprise there ... , I hadn't enough left of it. So I had to settle for the other print I used in my project. Finally I think it was a good thing because this yellow binding really shines !

J'avais d'abord pensé le terminer avec l'imprimé rayé orange et blanc mais, là rien d'étonnant ... , il ne m'en restait pas assez. Donc je me suis rabattue sur l'autre imprimé que j'avais utilisé dans mon projet. Finalement, je pense que c'était une bonne chose car ce binding jaune rend le quilt plus lumineux !

Le vent m'a donné un petit coup de main pour vous montrer le dos ...

I simply quilted horizontal straight lines with a very light pink thread. I had a lot of hesitations when it came to the quilting design and finally went for the option I was the most comfortable with. Even though now I am not sure it was the best choice ... I am looking forward to discovering what other participants come up with !

J'ai simplement quilté des lignes horizontales avec un fil rose très clair. J'ai eu beaucoup d'hésitations pour le dessin de quilting et j'ai finalement choisi l'option qui était la plus confortable pour moi. Même si maintenant je ne suis pas sûre que c'était le meilleur choix ... Je me réjouis de découvrir les idées des autres participants !



Quilting the same design all over the top versus Stitching all round the deer and choosing a different quilting design for the background ?! It was the main question ... Here are a few of my sketches. If you are still debating on how to quilt this project it could help you to make a decision :-)

Quilter le même design sur tout le top ou Souligner le tour du cerf et choisir un dessin de quilting différent pour le fond ?! C'était la grande question ... Voici quelques uns de mes croquis. Si vous êtes encore en train de débattre sur comment quilter ce projet, cela pourrait vous aider à prendre une décision :-)

I gave up the two options below because I had no idea on how to quilt inside the deer. I was afraid that if the inside wasn't quilted at all, a dense quilting in the background would make the quilt looked warped.

J'ai abandonné les deux options ci-dessous car je n'avais aucune idée de comment quilter l'intérieur du cerf. J'avais souci que si l'intérieur n'était pas quilté du tout, un matelassage dense dans le fond donnerait un air gondolé au quilt.

This option has a better balance between motif and background as regards quilting density and could have been interesting ...
Cette option a un meilleur équilibre entre le motif et le fond en ce qui concerne la densité de quilting et aurait pu être intéressante ...

To be honest I had a couple of troubles while making this part ...
Pour être honnête, j'ai eu quelques problèmes dans la réalisaton de cette partie ...



I only had one seam to stitch when I realised that the two sections were not the same size ... How could it be possible when working with Paper Piecing ?!
It took me a while to understand where I had mistaken. For that, I traced on a transparent paper the sections as they should be stitched together. I placed it then on my block and found out that I had slightly twisted unit G when adding it to the whole.

Il me restait seulement une couture à faire quand j'ai réalisé que les deux sections n'avaient pas la même taille ... Comment était-ce possible en travaillant en Paper Piecing ?! 
Cela m'a pris un moment pour comprendre d'où venait l'erreur. Pour cela, j'ai tracé sur un papier transparent les sections comme elle devaient être assemblées. Je l'ai placé ensuite sur mon bloc et constaté que j'avais légèrement déformé l'unité G en l'assemblant avec le reste.

I had to rip out several units to correct the distorsion ... But it was worth it ! ;-)
J'ai dû découdre plusieurs unités pour corriger la distorsion ... Mais cela en valait la peine ! ;-)

Like every second Monday of the month, it is my turn to share a part of the mystery QAL hosted by Gosia at Quilts My Way.

This part #5 is almost a reverse image of the third one and I placed the colours in the same way.

My friend Mireille is still sewing along and sent me a picture of the previous part. I love her dark background version !

So Dearly QAL #4

We are now half-way in the mystery QAL hosted by Gosia at Quilts My Way. She divided her design into eight parts and the fourth part has been revealed last week. If you have not already done so, download the template without delay since it is available for free only during a month.

Nous sommes maintenant à la moitié du QAL mystère organisé par Gosia de Quilts My Way. Elle a divisé son motif en huit parties et la quatrième partie a été révélée la semaine passée. That is what you get right now with the four parts made. I arranged parts #1, #2 and #4 at the right place. The third part should be placed higher on the left.

While preparing this blog post yesterday afternoon I realized that I had a few mistakes in my block ... I had used colours instead of background fabric for the three pointy pieces at the top of the block. I pondered upon the best way to correct it for a while and finally decided to start over since I had no motivation to rip out stitches of length 2 on foundation paper ... ;-)

En préparant cet article hier après-midi, j'ai réalisé que j'avais quelques erreurs dans mon bloc ... J'avais utilisé des couleurs au lieu du tissu de fond pour les trois pièces pointues en haut du bloc. J'ai réfléchis pendant un moment à la meilleure solution pour le corriger et finalement décidé de recommencer à zéro car je n'avais pas la motivation de défaire des points de longueur 2 sur un support papier ... ;-)



Note to myself - Look at the assembly diagram ! B is for Background ... ;-)

If you are sewing along with us you probably have already seen part #2 of the design that Gosia at Quilts My Way revealed last week. Here is my 'sherbet' colour palette version !

Si vous participez avec nous, vous avez probablement déjà vu la partie #2 du motif que Gosia de Quilts My Way a révélée la semaine dernière. Voici ma version avec palette de couleurs "sorbets" !



Already an idea of the full motif ?! Anyway it is better to use only one fabric for all lime green pieces labelled 'B' on the assembly diagram so that your central motif stand out against the background.

Déjà une idée du motif final ?! En tout cas, c'est préférable d'utiliser un seul tissu pour toutes les pièces en vert lime libellées "B" sur le diagramme d'assemblage pour que votre motif central ressorte sur le fond.

So Dearly QAL #1

Recently my blogging friend Gosia asked me if I would like to take part in and be a guest for her 2018 Quilt-A-Long. I hadn't seen the pattern yet at that moment but you guys know me ... I agreed straight away :-))

Récemment mon amie blogueuse Gosia m'a proposé de participer en tant qu'invitée pour son Quilt-A-Long 2018. Je n'avais pas encore vu le modèle à ce moment-là, mais vous me connaissez ... J'ai directement accepté :-))

This is a paper piecing mystery Quilt-A-Long, open to everyone. It started in early April and will run throughout the year. It is then not too late to join us !
Each of the eight parts of the pattern will be available for downolad for free during a month. I am in the secret and then have seen the full pattern. He he he ... I just can tell you it is a very lovely design. And also that you can't guess what the pattern looks like from my fabric pull... ;-)

C'est un Quilt-A-Long mystère en paper piecing, ouvert à tous. Il a commencé début avril et va durer toute l'année. Ce n'est donc pas trop tard pour nous rejoindre !
Chacune des huit parties du modèle sera disponible pour téléchargement gratuitement pendant un mois. Je suis dans le secret et j'ai donc vu le modèle en entier. Hé,hé hé ... Je peux juste vous dire que le dessin est adorable ! Et aussi que vous ne pouvez pas deviner à quoi ressemble le modèle à partir de ma sélection de tissus ... ;-)

I chose Kona Ice Frappe for the background. It is a kind of pale mint green. I am working with a mix of pink, orange and yellow for the pieces.

J'ai choisi le coloris Ice Frappe de chez Kona pour le fond. C'est une sorte de vert menthe très clair. Je travaille avec un mélange de pink, orange et jaune pour les pièces.

This Quilt-A-Long is a good opportunity for beginners to learn the technique since Gosia provides instructions along the way. I made a couple of paper piecing projects in the past but never a single large scale design. I think this quilt is challenging and fun for quilters familiar with paper piecing as well. And the mistery adds to the fun !

Ce Quilt-A-Long est une occasion pour les débutants d'apprendre la technique car Gosia fournit des instructions en cours de route. J'ai réalisé quelques projets en paper piecing dans le passé mais jamais un dessin unique à grande échelle. Je pense que ce quilt est aussi un challenge amusant pour les personnes familières avec le paper piecing. Et le mystère ajoute du piment !

If like me you are not much for sewing on standard paper, there are a few dedicated foundation paper on the market. I generally use Stickvlies Stitch-n-Tear by Vliesline which is intended for machine embroidery.
Si comme moi vous n'aimez pas trop coudre sur du papier standard, il existe comme support plusieurs papiers spécifiques sur le marché. J'utilise habituellement Stickvlies Stitch-n-Tear de Vliesline qui est destiné à la broderie machine.

Mini paper pieced Log Cabin finished

My mini Log Cabin quilt for the QAL hosted by Cécile at Patchwork Inspirations and Béa at Une aiguille dans une botte de foin is finished on time (deadline is end March) !
Mon mini quilt Log Cabin pour le QAL organisé par Cécile de Patchwork Inspirations et Béa de Une aiguille dans une botte de foin est fini dans les temps (délai à fin mars) !

I quilted it very slightly by machine and added some hand stitches on the four blocks on the left.
Je l'ai quilté très légèrement à la machine et j'ai ajouté quelques points à la main sur les quatre blocs tout à gauche.

My quilting design involved going through a lot of seams and layers of fabric ... But isn't that always the case with small scale Log Cabin blocks ?! A tricky job for a not really visible effect ...
Mon dessin de quilting impliquait passer à travers beaucoup de coutures et couches de tissus ... Mais n'est-ce pas toujours le cas avec des blocs Log Cabin de petite taille ?! Un travail délicat pour un effet peu visible ...

I used for the first time a Sulky 12 wt thread I bought at Quiltcon. My friendwill be glad to know this thread is perfect since I visited each and every booth at least thrice to find the right colour and right weight thread :-))
J'ai utilisé pour la première fois un fil Sulky 12 wt que j'ai acheté à Quiltcon. Mon amie sera contente de savoir que ce fil est parfait car j'ai visité chaque stand au moins trois fois pour trouver la bonne couleur et épaisseur de fil :-))



I chose to bind my quilt with the blue fabric which is bold to add some dynamism to the whole.
J'ai choisi de border mon quilt avec le tissu bleu qui est fort pour ajouter un peu de dynamisme à l'ensemble.

Aren't you super happy when you've done a little math and everything works on the first try ?!
I like to add some scraps to my bindings. I usually measure approximately the placement of each scrap but for this quilt I decided to place them accurately. On the top of that I pieced them diagonally which makes the math a little more complicated ...
Est-ce que vous n'êtes pas super content quand vos calculs marchent du premier coup ?!
J'aime ajouter quelques scraps à mes bindings. Habituellement je mesure à peu près l'emplacement de chaque morceau mais pour ce quilt j'ai décidé de les placer de manière précise. En plus, je les ai assemblés dans la diagonale ce qui rend les calculs plus compliqués ...

This quilt will be shown at my group exhibit next September, in the place dedicated to mini quilts.

QAL Log cabin - Top finished

Here is my top for the QAL hosted by the team Cécile at Patchwork Inspirations and Béa at Une aiguille dans une botte de foin. Finished size is 12" x 12", approximately 30 cm x 30 cm.

Voici mon top pour le QAL organisé par l'équipe Cécile de Patchwork Inspirations et Béa de Une aiguille dans une botte de foin. La taille finie est de 12" x 12", environ 30 cm x 30 cm.



The participants have to make at least sixteen Log Cabin blocks by the end of February. You can find more details about the beginning of the project in my previous post and if you are tempted to make this block, all instructions and the template are available here.
Les participants doivent réaliser au moins seize blocs Log Cabin d'ici à fin février. Vous pouvez trouver plus de détails à propos du début du projet dans mon article précédent et si vous êtes tenté par la réalisation de ce bloc, toutes les instructions et le patron sont disponibles ici.



I went ahead and finished my blocks well in advance of the deadline. I will leave for Quiltcon on Monday (Yippee !!!) and wanted to post the picture before my departure.
J'ai pris un peu d'avance et terminé mes blocs bien avant le délai. Je pars pour Quiltcon lundi (Youpi !!!) et j'avais envie de publier la photo avant mon départ.

QAL - Log cabin

As I already mentioned in a previous post I am joining in a QAL hosted by Cécile at Patchwork Inspirations and Béa at Une aiguille dans une botte de foin on the theme Log cabin and I chose the modern version option.
Comme je l'ai déjà mentionné dans un article précédent, je participe à un QAL organisé par Cécile de Patchwork Inspirations et Béa de Une aiguille dans une botte de foin sur le thème Log cabin et j'ai choisi l'option version moderne.

It is becoming a habit ... I chose mainly Carolyn Friedlander fabrics for this mini quilt ... I love that on this cross hatch print, the pattern is irregular along the selvedge.
Ca devient une habitude ... J'ai choisi principalement des tissus de Carolyn Friedlander pour ce mini quilt ... J'adore comme sur cet imprimé quadrillé, le dessin est irrégulier le long de la lisière.

We have to make at least eight blocks by the end of January. The blue background block wasn't on the original plan. First it was just a trial "And what if ..." and now I am changing my plans in order to include it in the layout ;-)
Nous devons réaliser au moins huit blocs pour la fin du mois de janvier. le bloc avec tissu de fond bleu n'était pas sur le plan de départ. C'était d'abord seulement un essai "Et si ..." et maintenant je suis en train de changer mes plans pour l'inclure dans le montage ;-)
