Retro - A finished quilt

I shared a lot of work in progress pictures of this project and I am happy to show you today, Retro, the finished quilt !

Luna Lovequilts - Retro, a finished quilt with improv curves

The name 'Retro' came to me since I sewed the first blocks. I suppose the mustard yellow and brown colours make it look a little bit like a wall paper from the '60s. The fabric I used on the back is a newspaper print from Moda in a retro style too. I love that print but find difficult to include it in a top and so decided to use it as lining and backing for different projects.

Luna Lovequilts - Retro, a finished quilt with improv curves - On the sofa

I wanted to make a black and white striped binding for a long time and was just waiting for the right project :-) As usual I ran out of fabric and had to add turquoise scraps on top and bottom of the quilt. And as often when I have to deal with lack of fabric I think the result is more interesting ...

I quilted an even grid all over using mostly a mustard yellow thread. On the side borders, the vertical lines are in light turquoise and I worked with a slightly different spacement.

Ages ago ... we were used to walk around this lake with the kids and they always wanted to be seated on this tree trunk. Nowadays I walk my quilts ... :-))

  1. I love this quilt so much! I'm so glad to see it finished. My style is very retro too so it's no wonder I love the colors you picked. It was brilliant to add that black/white striped fabric because it adds so much to the overall look. That crosshatching quilting design gives it such wonderful texture.

  2. Beautiful quilt! I wondered about the binding choice, and was so glad you explained what you did and why. Very interesting, I do the same and agree, the end result is usually better.

  9. Congratulations on a wonderful finish. The mustard blends so well with the hillside in your final shot. I like the way you inserted the turquoise and blue into the binding of your quilt. Deliberately lining it up for the top and bottom sides adds to your design. I must remember that. Thanks.

  16. Sophie, this quilt is marvelous! The colors are nice on that perfect background for it, and the back newsprint fabric works very nicely. LOVE what you did for the binding. And what a fantastic photo op area! I'd be taking my quilts for the walk, too. :)
